Lahinch Golf Club
Experience world-class links golf at Lahinch Golf Club - Ireland’s "St. Andrews". Challenge yourself on the iconic Old Course, ranked among the world’s best, or enjoy the stunning views of the Atlantic on the Castle Course. Coastal Way Lodge is only a few minutes drive from this iconic course.

Golf enthusiasts couldn’t ask for a better location. Our B&B is situated just 3 miles (a short 6-minute drive) from the legendary Lahinch Golf Club, frequently referred to as the "St. Andrews of Ireland."
Whether you have an early morning tee time on the world-ranked Old Course or are spending an afternoon navigating the dunes of the Castle Course, you’ll enjoy the ultimate convenience of being back in your room or relaxing in our guest lounge before the salt air has even left your skin. Forget the stress of long commutes; stay with us and spend more time on the fairways and less time behind the wheel.
What to Expect
Lahinch offers a "pure" links experience. Expect towering sand dunes, unpredictable Atlantic breezes, and a layout that follows the natural contours of the land.
- The Goats: The club’s "weather forecasters." Since the 1800s, wild goats have roamed the dunes; if you see them near the clubhouse, rain is likely on the way.
- Blind Shots: The course is famous for unique challenges, particularly the "Klondyke" (a blind second shot over a giant dune) and "The Dell" (a par-3 where the green is completely hidden).
- The Atlantic Edge: You’ll play with the sound of crashing waves and salt spray—be prepared for 4 seasons in 18 holes!
The Courses
When choosing between the two courses at Lahinch, you are essentially deciding between a rugged, world-class challenge and a charming, scenic getaway. Both offer the authentic salt-air experience of Irish links golf, but they serve very different purposes for your trip.
The Old Course: A Masterpiece of Drama
The Old Course is the heavy hitter, often ranked among the top 50 courses in the world. It is defined by its towering, ancient sand dunes and "blind" shots that require equal parts skill and faith. This is a traditional "out and back" links where you’ll face legendary holes like the Klondyke, where your second shot must clear a massive dune to find a hidden green, and the Dell, a par-3 where you aim at a white stone on a hill because the flag is completely invisible from the tee. It is a grueling, exhilarating test of golf designed by legends like Old Tom Morris and Alister MacKenzie. Because of its prestige and the high demand for tee times, playing here feels like a major event, and a caddie is almost essential to help you navigate the "rollicking" and unpredictable terrain.
The Castle Course: A Scenic and Friendly Alternative
Just across the road, the Castle Course offers a much more relaxed and "agreeable" round. While the Old Course can feel like a battle against the elements and the architecture, the Castle Course is shorter, flatter, and more forgiving. It winds along the tidal River Inagh, offering a peaceful setting filled with local wildlife and the historic ruins of Dough Castle (which provides a stunning backdrop to the 7th hole). It lacks the massive, punishing dunes of its big brother, making it a perfect choice for a second round in a single day, a warm-up for the Old Course, or a fun outing for golfers who want to enjoy the scenery without losing a dozen balls. It is "pure" links golf at a gentler pace, where the hazards are more about clever bunkering than mountainous sand hills
