Dog Friendly Questions & Answers

Common questions on our dog policy.

Are pets allowed at Coastal Way Lodge?

Absolutely! We are a dog-friendly lodge and believe your four-legged friends deserve a holiday, too. Beyond the Lodge, the town of Liscannor is incredibly welcoming, with dogs allowed in both Egan’s pub and Dolly’s coffee shop.Best of all, you’ll have a huge variety of nearby beaches and coastal trails where they can roam and explore the salt air. We are also currently building some exciting, dedicated dog-friendly features on our property to make their stay even more special.

Is the garden completely secure?

Yes, we provide a dedicated secure area for your peace of mind. While our property sits on a sprawling 2.4 acres of rugged Wild Atlantic Way landscape, we have a specific fully enclosed garden featuring a 1-metre high fence. This secure zone is perfect for letting your dog stretch their legs and play safely outdoors. For the rest of the acreage, we recommend keeping your pet on a lead to enjoy the open scenery together.

Are dogs allowed inside?

Absolutely! We want your dog to feel right at home. We have two dedicated pet-friendly rooms located on the ground floor, specifically designed for guests traveling with well-trained dogs. While we ask that paws stay off the beds to keep our linens pristine, your furry friends are welcome to relax in their designated rooms.
To ensure the comfort of all our guests, we have a few simple house rules: dogs are not permitted in the kitchen area. Additionally, if the house is being shared with other guests (such as during B&B stays), dogs are not allowed in the dining room during meal times. This allows everyone to enjoy their stay on the Wild Atlantic Way comfortably!

Where is the nearest dog-friendly beach or walking trail?

You’re spoiled for choice! Our location is perfectly nestled between the most iconic dog-friendly spots on the Wild Atlantic Way. You are just minutes away from:Lahinch Beach: Famous for its golden sands and perfect for early morning or late evening runs (check seasonal times for dogs).Liscannor & Clahane Shore: A local favorite for a quieter, rugged coastal walk with stunning Atlantic views.Ennistymon Cascades: A beautiful riverside walk just a short drive away.Whether you’re looking for a sandy sprint or a cliffside stroll, we can provide local tips to the best off-leash spots in the area.

What are the local beach rules for dogs during the summer?

To ensure a stress-free holiday, it’s helpful to know the local "dog-friendly" schedule. Along this stretch of the Wild Atlantic Way (including Lahinch and Fanore), specific seasonal rules apply to Blue Flag beaches.

Summer Season (May 15th – September 15th): Dogs are generally restricted from the main sandy beach areas between 11:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
Early Birds & Sunset Strolls: Your pup is more than welcome to enjoy these beaches before 11:00 AM or after 6:00 PM during the summer months.
Year-Round Freedom: Outside of the summer season, dogs can typically enjoy the strand all day long!

For "anytime" walks during the day, we recommend the Clahane Shore near Liscannor or Doughmore Beach, which offer more flexible access for four-legged explorers.

We always remind our guests to keep dogs under effective control and, of course, "scoop the poop" to keep our coastline beautiful!

Do you provide dog beds, bowls, or crates?

Travel light and stress-free! We want to make your dog-friendly holiday on the Wild Atlantic Way as easy as possible. We provide comfortable dog beds and bowls for your stay, so you have more room in the car for adventure gear. We also have dog crates available upon request—perfect for providing a familiar "den" for your pup after a busy day of exploring. Just let us know your requirements when booking, and we’ll have everything ready for your arrival.

What if my dog gets muddy or sandy after the beach?

We have an outdoor dog wash station located right beside the house. It is fully enclosed and uses heated water, which is much more comfortable for dogs after a swim in the Atlantic than a cold garden hose. It’s designed specifically to help you rinse off sand or mud before heading back inside, keeping both your pet and the accommodation clean.

Is there an extra fee for bringing my dog?

No, we do not charge any extra fees for bringing your dog. Unlike many pet-friendly rentals, we don't believe in hidden cleaning surcharges. Your dog is a part of the family and stays for free. We just ask that guests follow our house rules regarding furniture and shared spaces to help us keep the property in top condition for everyone.

Are there any breed restrictions at the property?

We welcome all well-behaved dogs. We simply ask that owners of breeds listed on the Irish Restricted Breeds list follow national guidelines, including keeping their pets on a short lead and muzzled in public or shared areas of the property.
